What began in 2005 as a private family home was built with a simple vision: to create a place where nature, comfort, and genuine hospitality could exist in harmony. For over a decade, Suak was enjoyed only by family and close friends, becoming a place for celebration, connection, and quiet moments by the sea.

The owners slowly built a collection of antiques, traditional pieces and photographs gathered from across Sumatera and Indonesia. Over the years, these were thoughtfully brought together and displayed throughout the home, each reflecting something of the culture, people, landscapes and traditions that make this part of the world so special. What began as a personal collection gradually became part of the character of Suak—a home filled with stories, memories and reminders of the places and people that shaped it.

In 2017, that experience was thoughtfully opened to guests from around the world. What was once a private home became a place to share the beauty, culture and character of this special corner of Sumatera. While Suak has since evolved into a boutique beachfront retreat, it has remained true to the warmth, character and sense of home from which it began.
